Welcome...
    The Editor of this fine publication, Eugene L. Garner, left us to be with the Lord June 5, 1993. The father of 7 children, he was the only pastor of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Rockford, Ill. for 41 years. Starting in February of 1970, "the Clarion Herald" was published every two weeks. Then in March 15, 1979, it changed to once a month. His love for the Lord was evident in his writings.
From the Webmaster
Can you help?
    The bulk of the material for this site was provided by the late Editors wife. Others, including myself have also helped. As you browse the site, you will come upon in the menu's - "Not located..."! While many if not most visitors likely never received the Clarion Herald in their mail box, some of you may have, or your parents and relatives, perhaps even a friend. My experience is that followers of the faith tend to save such materials for future reference. So if you can help, please send an email to myself, the admittedly unnamed webmaster using the link provided in the menu. Any help in locating the "Not located..." issues would be greatly appreciated.

The Webmaster sadly notes ...

THE BIGOT'S CREED

Believe as I believe -- no more,
    no less;
That I am right, and no one else,
    confess;
Feel as I feel, think only as
    I think;
Eat what I eat, and drink but what
    I drink;
Look as I look, do always as I do;
And, only then, I'll fellowship
    with you.

That I am right, and always right,
    I know,
Because MY OWN CONVICTIONS tell
    me so;
And to be right is simply this:
    to be
Entirely and in all respects
    like me.
To deviate a jot, or to begin
To question, doubt, or hesitate,
    is sin.

Let sink the drowning man, if he'll
    not swim
Upon the plank that I throw out
    to him;
Let starve the famishing, if he'll
    not eat
My KIND and QUANTITY of bread
    and meat;
Let freeze the naked, too, if
    he'll not be
Supplied with garments such as made
    for me.

'Twere better that the sick should
    die than live,
Unless they take the medicine
    I give;
'Twere better sinners perish than
    refuse
To be conformed to my peculiar
    views;
'Twere better that the world stood
    still than move
In ANY way that I DO NOT APPROVE.

    Isn't it a shame that so often people professing "godliness" are characterized by this narrow, self-centered, self-promoting, censuring and bigoted spirit? How many are the lives that have been driven to discouragement, despair and ultimate ruin by one who thought himself too high and holy to stoop down and lend a helping hand to a fallen brother who earnestly desired to walk in uprightness.
    Love does not exalt itself; it does not seek an advantage; and it certainly does not climb upward by trampling on another for whom our Saviour died. Genuine Christian strength will obey the command to: "bear the iniquities of the weak, and not to please ourselves".
    "LET US LOVE ONE ANOTHER."
